Emirates First Class Overload: MEL to DXB via SIN

___________________________________________________________________________________

On arrival to the first class check-in desk at Melbourne airport, I tried to change my flight to the later non-stop flight to Dubai instead of my current one stop flight via Singapore. It did take the station manager a couple of minutes to check with the ticketing office before I was told that there would be a ~$150USD change fee on my fare. I declined figuring I could use the money on something better.

Thanks to the fast pass access for business and first class passengers, I was at the lounge a quick ten minutes later. Again, the Emirates lounge just looks and feel the same as their other lounges around the world.

Since I was still full from lunch and wanted to save space for the meal on board, I limited myself to a couple of glasses of champagne and a made-to-order small salmon plate.

I headed to the plane after the boarding announcement was made in the lounge. As usual, most of the other passengers had already boarded and I walked straight into the plane. There were 3 other passengers in first today but I didn't see them in the lounge. Guess they gave the lounge a skip?

I decided the switch it up a bit on this flight and chose seat 1A on the left side instead of the right side of the plane that I had been chosen on the earlier two flights. Yea, people do argue on which are the best seat on the plane but for me, once I'm in first, all the seats are the best. Since the suite next to mine was empty, the pursuer who showed me to my seat insisted I store my hand luggage in that suite to give me more space (not that I need more of it ;))

I started of with the Dom 2003 but got bored of it after 2-3 glasses and switched to the white wine for the rest of the flight. The Dom just ain't that good. It was dinner time once we were air born. I started off with some caviar followed by the roast beef starter and the seafood medley and some gnocchi. I was stuffed but was persuaded by the stewardess to not miss the chocolate sticky date pudding which turned out to be really good.

The plan was to stay awake for for this leg of the trip and sleep on the SIN to DXB leg. Well, that was the plan. After all the food and drinks, I dozed off while watching a movie which probably wasn't too interesting since I can't remember what it was. I woke up with a horrible slight headache/hangover right as the captain on air to let us know we were about to land.

We had about an hour layover in Singapore. The lounge was pretty full with flights to Colombo and Dubai leaving about the same time. I took a much needed shower and just settled for some hot tea since the headache/hangover was still in full affect.

Bed was all I was thinking of when I got on the plane. I was somewhat grumpy and all I wanted pre-take off was some cold water. No more alcohol for a while! Ouch! The stewardess brought the cold and added a couple refreshing slices of lemon to it with did wonders to my hungover. Wonder if she did know I was hungover...lol. I just slept though the rest of the flight and even skipped through the meals figuring I'll just eat in the lounge on arrival in Dubai.

We arrived in Dubai bright and early at 6am. Instead of heading straight into town for my ~24 hour layover, I proceeded back into the terminal and to the first class lounge with my on-going boarding pass to Kuala Lumpur. I took a short nap for a couple of hours in the lounge before enjoying a hearty breakfast of poach eggs and some salmon cakes before finally leaving the airport.
